Gina Apostol Gina Apostol is an educator and acclaimed author. Her third book, "Gun Dealers' Daughter," was awarded the 2013 PEN/Open Book Award and was shortlisted for the William Saroyan International Prize. Publisher's Weekly named her fourth novel, "Insurrecto," one of the Ten Best Books of 2018 before it hit the shelves, making her the cover author of its Best Books Issue. The book tells the story of a Filipino translator and an American filmmaker, embarking on a road trip in Duterte's Philippines, collaborating and clashing in the writing of a film script about a massacre during the Philippine-American War. Apostol pushes up against the limits of fiction in order to recover the atrocity in Balangiga, and in so doing, shows us the dark heart of an untold and forgotten war that would shape the next century of Philippine and American history. She grew up in Tacloban, Philippines and now resides in New York City and Western Massachusetts.
